Abstract
This study examines Yule's (1996) theory of speech acts in the comment section of video reels on Pubity accounts. This theory is divided into three interconnected dimensions, namely locutionary acts, illocutionary acts, and perlocutionary acts. The study was conducted on Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) in the form of written media, namely Instagram. This medium was used to convey non-verbal cues using a keyboard system, which then produced CMC features. There are several features found in this study, such as emoji, punctuation, capitalization, spelling, and mathematical symbols. This study aims to investigate the process of achieving speech acts by analyzing locutionary acts with computer-mediated communication (CMC) features, following Grice's cooperative principle as outlined in Birner's (2013) work. The study also exaines the expression of illocutionary and perlocutionary acts and assesses the recipient's awareness of perlocutionary acts based on the most preferred replies in comment interractions. This study employed a descriptive-qualitative approach and analyzed a dataset consisting of 21 data points. The study presents three distinc methods of delivering locutionary acts: 13 instances of observation, 7 instances of flouting, and 1 instance of violation. It also explains four types of illocutionary acts: 14 representative data, 3 expressive data, 2 directive data, and 2 representative and expressive data combinations. Six types of perlocutionary acts were identified, namely 10 amusing data, 5 attracting data, 2 persuading data, 2 educating data, 1 irritating data, and 1 advising data. The speech acts were observed and revealed 15 successful data points and 6 failed data points. The locution acts demonstrate that the characteristic of Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) is to eliminate imprecision of expression and uncertainty. The failure to recognize the effect of perlocutionary acts occured because the recipient rejected them rather than reflecting their knowledge.
