Abstract
This research was conducted with the aim of explaining the social capital practiced by the community in preserving the mangrove forest in Kurau Barat Village, Central Bangka Regency. The study used a qualitative descriptive approach. Data collection processes were carried out through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of this research indicate that thanks to social capital, emphasizing trust, norms, and networks, the community is capable of collectively managing and preserving the mangrove forest in Kurau Barat Village. Consequently, the community not only gains ecological benefits but also economic and social advantages. Ecologically, mangroves play a role as stabilizers of coastal conditions to prevent excessive erosion and intrusion of seawater. Additionally, mangroves serve as habitats for various aquatic and non-aquatic biota, such as crabs, fish, birds, and reptiles. Economically, mangroves also serve as an additional source of income for the community through ecotourism. The income generated from ecotourism can provide extra revenue for the local community. From a social perspective, mangroves act as a means of integrating the community, fostering mutual care and cooperation, thereby creating harmony for the local residents. Thus far, the efforts to preserve the mangrove forest in Kurau Barat Village have been running optimally due to the social capital being practiced.
