Abstract
This study is an analysis of orientalism through literary works in the form of films. This research aims to represent Southeast Asian culture implicitly in the movie titled Raya and The Last Dragon produced by Walt Disney Animation and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, United States. The movie was released in 2021. This study applies a descriptive qualitative method that describes information in the form of dialog and image transcripts as data in the film. This study uses extrinsic elements from Welleck and Warren’s theory which consists of 4 extrinsic elements, namely, religious values, moral values, social values, and cultural values related to Edward W. Said’s theory of orientalism. The results of this study show that there are 16 data grouped into 4 types of Southeast Asian cultural values. These types of cultural values implicitly explain Westerners’ views of Easterners, namely; 1) Easterners still believe in dragons as gods, 2) Easterners believe in the existence of demons that destroy the world, 3) Easterners have a greedy, 4) Easteners like to steal and are gullible, 5) Easterners are hospitality and 6) Easterners are thirsty for power. Based on the research findings, it can be shown that there are 16 data, namely religious values (7 data), moral values (3 data), social values (5 data), and cultural values (1 data) related to orientalism implicitly.
