Abstract
The analysis of syntactic errors made by comic Annie Yang in Stand-Up Comedy Indonesia season 10 (SUCI X) is the main subject of this work. This study utilized Burt, Dulay, and Krashen's (1982) Surface Strategy Taxonomy theory to find syntactic errors in Annie Yang's utterances during SUCI X. According to this hypothesis, there are four different kinds of errors: addition errors, misformation errors, omission errors, and misordering errors. In order to gain a better understanding of English sentence structure, this study also compares syntactic faults with Standard English using Schneider's theory. Twelve films of Annie Yang's performances that were available on the Stand Up Kompas TV YouTube channel served as the source of the research's data. These movies were transcribed and tested using a qualitative descriptive method to characterize the data analysis that revealed flaws. According to the study's findings, Annie Yang's speech had a wide variety of syntactic errors. Eleven addition errors, seven misordering errors, 22 misformation errors, and 62 omission errors made up the 92 data that were discovered. 37 analytical data points from this study demonstrate grammatical problems in the use of verb pattern forms, subject-verb agreement, auxiliary words, articles, and sentence word order. The findings demonstrated that Annie Yang's use of English deviates from Standard English. Despite her utterances' deviations from Standard English, her performance is nevertheless fluid despite these errors. This implies that although syntactic correctness is crucial, delivery and context are more crucial for effective communication in stand-up comedy than grammatical correctness. Thus, it is anticipated that this study will help EFL students, particularly those in Indonesia, by enhancing their capacity to employ proper grammar and steer clear of such mistakes in the future.
