Abstract

With an emphasis on the verbal and visual components that influence meaning and grab readers’ attention, this study attempts to examine the multimodal components found in English course brochures in Pangkalpinang. This study employed a qualitative descriptive methodology and combined the general structure of print advertisements by Cheong (2004) with the multimodal theory of Kress and Van Leeuwen (2001). Eight bochures, two from each of the 2022 and 2023 years, were chosen as data sources from four English courses in Pangkalpinang. The findings demonstrated that every brochure used a variety of semiotic tools, including layout, color, images, text and logos, to communicate its ideas. Main and supporting announcements, tags, explanations, and contact as well as address details were all verbal components. In the meanwhile, visual components included displays, symbols, and leads. According to the study’s findings, brochures with eye-catching graphics and unambiguous text were better at delivering marketing messages. Additionally, a number of brochures from 2022 to 2023 showed notable advances in terms of design, information completeness, and clarity, suggesting a developing understanding of multimodal tactics in educational advertising.
