Abstract

Videos with variety of contents can be found on the YouTube website. YouTube videos can serve as a resource for researching the evolution of sociolinguistics by examining the syntax, vocabulary, and speech patterns of the users. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the existence of registers, which are then subdivided into several kinds of monologues from 12 Juicyjas video blogs in 2022. The material in 12 video blogs was analysed in this study using a descriptive qualitative method using text, transcripts, and images as research objects. This study employed Halliday’s Language Function theory and Martin Joos’ Register theory. According to the study’s findings, 39 registers were identified, their data categorized into several categories and language function. The findings demonstrated that every piece of information fell within the casual register category. Three regulatory functions, one interactional function, nineteen personal functions, twelve representational functions, one heuristic function, one imaginative function, and two instrumental functions were among the 39 data in the register under the Casual category. According to this study, Juicyjas, a YouTube content creator, contributed to language development. The results of the register and language function analyses that were acquired by looking at every utterance that Juicyjas spoke serve as evidence for this. Juicyjas is implicitly encouraged and given the chance to learn a new language that can be examined using linguistics-in this case, sociolinguistics-by virtue of the content creator’s background.
