Abstract
Heroism is a recurring theme in children's films, particularly in the adventure genre, where protagonists often confront challenges in pursuit ofnoble goals. While many characters in such narratives follow the classical Hero's Journey model, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish presents a different interpretation of heroism. The protagonist, Puss, is not only non-human but also characterized by complex motivations and internal conflicts that diverge from conventional heroic archetypes. This study aims to examine whether Puss qualifies as a hero by analyzing his character development and comparing his journey to Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey framework. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive approach, the study investigates monologues, dialogues, and key scenes to identify Puss' s character development and align it with the stages of the Hero's Journey. The results reveal that Puss's complex and evolving characterization throughout the story, making his character relatable to both younger and older viewers. His journey successfully encompasses the three core stages of the Hero's Journey: Departure, Initiation, and Return. He completes 12 out of the 17 stages, such as: Refusal of the Call, Supernatural Aid, and The Crossing ofthe First Threshold in the Departure stage; The Road of Trials, The Meeting with the Goddess, Woman as Temptress, Atonement with the Father, Apotheosis, and The Ultimate Boon in the Initiation stage; and The Magic Flight, Rescue from Without, and Freedom to Live in the Return stage. Although not every stage is fulfilled, the findings demonstrate that Puss's narrative arc aligns closely with the Hero's Journey, and his personal growth ultimately affirms his role as a heroic figure in the film.
