Abstract
This study analyzes the phenomenon of code switching in YouTube videos made by Andovi and Jovial Da Lopez by applying the theory of bilingualism by Charlotte Hoffmann (1991). This research focuses on the types and functions of code switching that occur in their videos. the data is analyzed qualitatively which is narrated descriptively. The data were obtained from SkinnyIndonesian24 YouTube channel videos that focused on the speech of the hosts Andovi and Jovial Da Lopez that contained language code switching in the school tour at Raden Umar Said Kudus school and British International School. The results showed that out of 17 types of code-switching, three types of code switching were found including inter sentential code-switching (10 data), intra-sentential code-switching (6 data), and emblematic switching (1 data). From the 6 function of code-switching, there are 4 functions were found which included referential function as much as 5 data, directive functions as much as 1 data, expressive functions as much as 9 data, phatic functions as much as 1 data. This study concludes that Andovi and Jovial use of diction and phrases becomes significant in YouTube channels by referring to educational products in their videos so that public perception of international schools becomes positive. It was also found that the code-switching that is often used appears in the context of humor, emphasis, and clarification which can indicate that the speaker is trying to invite or reach more listeners in an interesting way.
