Abstract

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a psychiatric disorder which is caused by phenomena such as accidents, disasters, wars, and terrorism that make someone traumatic after that phenomenon. Furthermore, PTSD does not only happen in real life, but it can become the theme of literary work. The Woman In The Window is a novel that uses PTSD as a story theme. This novel was written by A.J. Finn and published in 2018. The main character of this novel is Anna Fox, a child psychologist. The symptoms of PTSD appear after Anna had a traumatic accident. This study analyzes how Anna’s character changes her behaviour, has fear and anxiety, and is isolated from society as the impact of PTSD. There are two main focuses of this study; the first is the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder suffered by Anna and the causes and impacts of post-traumatic stress disorder suffered by Anna. This study uses Gerald C Davidson’s theory to reveal the cause and impact of the psychiatric disorder of the main character in the novel. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method, which represents information in the form of text or transcript from a novel as the object of the study. The result of this study showed 23 datum which describe the symptoms, cause, and impact of PTSD in Anna’s character. The first finding is the symptoms of PTSD suffered by Anna, namely several psychological problems she experienced. The second finding is the cause and impact of PTSD suffered by Anna which is caused by psychological causes, namely the result of losing someone she loves.
