Abstract
Clay soil is categorized as problematic in civil engineering construction because it has high plasticity, which causes low bearing capacity and is prone to deformation, so to increase its bearing capacity, soil stabilization is necessary. In this study, stabilization for clay soil using coconut shell charcoal powder with mixed variations, 5%, 10% and 15% of the dry soil weight and coconut shell charcoal powder + fly ash with a constant 16% percentage. This study aims to determine the effect of adding coconut shell charcoal powder and coconut shell charcoal powder + fly ash on the gradation and reduction of clay soil consolidation. Based on the USCS classification method, the clay soil used showed the percentage of passing the No.200 filter, namely 64.565%> 50% and the plasticity index value of 15.334%, so that the soil was categorized as CL group, namely non-organic clay with low plasticity. In the grading test, the original soil gradation value was obtained and increased after the addition of coconut shell charcoal powder and fly ash with each value of 57,670%, 56,535%, 55,108%, 58,923%, 58,149% dan 58,172%. The effect of adding coconut shell charcoal powder and fly ash (fly ash) on the decrease in consolidation test also increased. In the original clay soil, a consolidated value was obtained of cm 1,597 cm. After adding variations of coconut shell charcoal powder and fly ash the consolidation value increased to 1,539 cm, 1,181 cm, 0,829 cm, 0,641 cm, 0,619 cm and 0,589 cm.
